How to Make 2022 the Year of Your Career
You’ve probably said each year for the past decade that this is going to be the year of your career. You make big plans on January first but then fail to see them through. This needs to be the year you change the cycle and actually make the career changes you desire. Here’s what you need to do.
Set SMART Goals
In order to be SMART goals, your career goals need to be each of the following.
For instance, your career goal may be that you seek to achieve a specific new promotion by the end of the year. Throughout the year, you must participate in activities designed to help you achieve your goal such as taking classes that enhance your standing within the business you work for, getting certifications for key skills, or even joining professional organizations focused on helping you achieve your career goals.
Join Professional Organizations and Network with Others in Your Field
Not only does this allow you to soak up new knowledge about your industry, it also allows you to make valuable connections that will ultimately broaden your career horizons and open new doors to you within your industry.
Become a Leader within Your Organization
Step into leadership roles when possible. Volunteer to help newly hired people get the lay of the land. Mentor younger people joining your company. The more you do to present yourself as a leader within your own ranks, the more others will begin to view you as such.
Changing the stars for your career doesn’t necessarily require a lot of time or money. Many managers are happy to see the effort and will reward your commitment as long as you keep up the good work while making these other changes to enhance your career.
